The Conjuring is set to return with even more terrifying experiences. The Conjuring franchise stands as one of the most successful horror movie series ever, having grossed over $2.5 billion worldwide. It all started in 2013 under the direction of James Wan, delving into the ‘real-life’ case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The universe has since grown to include spinoffs like Annabelle and The Nun, earning it’s reputation as one of the most legendary franchises in the horror genre.
Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix are set to portray the new Ed and Lorraine Warren in the upcoming prequel, The Conjuring – First Communion. The creators of the expansive horror universe have not yet commented on the news of these fresh faces joining the cast.
Wareing has gained recognition for his performances in The Long Walk and Manifest, while Fix is known for her work in Orphan Black – Echoes and Teenage S** and Death at Camp Miasma.
The new cast members are stepping in for Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who have been featured in every major Conjuring film leading up to the 2025 release, The Conjuring – Last Rites. Their portrayals of Ed and Lorraine Warren have undoubtedly secured their place in the horror hall of fame, making it a challenging role for anyone to take on.
Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether these actors have exited the franchise entirely or if they are merely taking a temporary hiatus. The storyline for the forthcoming prequel remains a closely guarded secret, yet it has been disclosed that Rodrigue Huart will take the helm as director, with a screenplay crafted by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg.
With a total of 11 films in it’s collection, fans are excited to discover what lies ahead for this renowned media franchise and how the prequel will pay tribute to, while also reimagining, the unique contributions of both Farmiga and Wilson.
According to Vera Farmiga, “To the best of our knowledge, we’ve put away the rosaries. The crucifix is back on the wall, and that’s the end of it. Our flashlights have lost their charge.”
As per Patrick Wilson, “What I can say is that this marks the conclusion of our journey at this moment, and that’s the perspective we took. It truly feels like the appropriate way to conclude the series we’ve built together.”
