Fans of Blue Bloods are eagerly anticipating the return of Vanessa Ray in her role on Boston Blue — but what if there was a spinoff centered around Eddie ? In a recent media interview Vanessa mentioned that a cameo in Boston Blue is “definitely in the realm of possibility”.
According to Vanessa Ray, “I’m not sure how it would play out. I don’t know if they would bring back [Will Estes‘] Jamie and Eddie to visit Danny or something along those lines.”
Vanessa Ray has confirmed that Donnie Wahlberg has reached out since launching his own show.
As per Vanessa Ray, “Donnie has shown remarkable kindness by reaching out multiple times. He reassured me, saying, ‘We’re having you back on the show. Don’t worry.’ I responded, ‘I’m not worried. It’s perfectly fine if it doesn’t make sense for me to appear on the show.’ I’m open to whatever opportunities come my way. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of these two major franchises [Blue Bloods and Pretty Little Liars] that boast such dedicated fans, excellent writing, and have allowed me to portray two very intriguing and enjoyable characters. If I ever have the chance to step back into playing those roles, it would bring me immense joy. Additionally, I sincerely hope that whatever project I undertake next meets the high expectations set by the excitement surrounding Pretty Little Liars and Blue Bloods, especially from the fans.”
Blue Bloods, which premiered in 2010, chronicled the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom served in the NYPD under the guidance of NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank’s father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), played a significant role in the series alongside Frank’s children – daughter Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and sons Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).
Vanessa Ray, for her part, joined Eddie, who later married Jamie, and the fictional couple revealed they were anticipating their first child in the series finale of 2024. Although Ray was uncertain about how Boston Blue could facilitate Eddie and Jamie’s presence in Boston, she didn’t dismiss the idea of portraying the characters in a different role — maybe even in their own series.
According to Vanessa Ray, “I would jump at the chance to do a spinoff without hesitation. Having an almost 2-year-old has made me realize that it was the most enjoyable job I’ve ever had. I often think, ‘Why didn’t I consider having kids while I was filming that show? It would have been amazing.’ My affection for Will Estes and the entire cast is immense, so the idea of returning to do it again excites me greatly. If we were to create a spinoff of Blue Bloods, I envision it taking place in Miami or Hawaii, or anywhere warm. Imagine filming on a beach. Blue Bloods on the beach—could that actually happen?”
Even though Vanessa Ray adores the Blue Bloods Universe, she remains open to exploring new experiences.
As per Vanessa Ray, “I truly enjoyed my time on Pretty Little Liars. The experience of collaborating with such amazing women was incredible. I’m very receptive to working alongside a younger cast because the talent and creativity of the younger actors today are astonishing. Their work is beautiful, and I simply want to be part of a fantastic group of individuals achieving remarkable things. I would prefer anything other than a medical drama, as I struggle with the medical terminology. I’d rather return to law enforcement or pursue something in the legal field. That would be fantastic.”
