Transformers – Rise of the Beasts is a 2023 American science fiction action film inspired by Hasbro’s Transformers toy line, particularly drawing from its Beast Wars sub-franchise. This film marks the seventh entry in the Transformers series and acts as a sequel to Bumblebee (2018). Transformers – Rise of the Beasts achieved a worldwide gross of $441.7 million against a budget of $195–200 million, marking it as a Box-Office disappointment.
Directed by Steven Caple Jr., the screenplay is crafted by Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, Josh Peters, Erich Hoeber, and Jon Hoeber, based on a story by Harold. Michael Bay returns as producer. Set in 1994, the narrative follows ex-military electronics expert Noah Diaz and artifact researcher Elena Wallace as they assist the Autobots and the Maximals in safeguarding an artifact known as the Transwarp Key from the malevolent Terrorcons.
Following the critical and commercial triumph of Bumblebee, the studio fast-tracked a sequel, which was announced in January 2019. The subsequent year saw the development of two additional films, one of which was centered on the Beast Wars series in 2020.
Caple Jr. was appointed as director in November of that year. The film was officially revealed months later in 2021 during a virtual presentation, combining elements of both a Bumblebee sequel and a Beast Wars film. Principal photography occurred from June to October 2021, with filming locations spanning Los Angeles, Peru, Montreal, and New York City.
Transformers – Rise of the Beasts had it’s premiere at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on May 27, 2023, and was released theatrically in the United States on June 9, 2023, by Paramount Pictures. The film garnered mixed reviews from critics, with many considering it less impressive than it’s predecessor, Bumblebee.
