The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a 2023 animated adventure comedy film from America, inspired by Nintendo’s iconic Mario video game series. It is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. Produced by Illumination and Nintendo, the film tells the story of brothers Mario and Luigi, two Italian-American plumbers who find themselves separated after being transported to a different world. They become caught in a conflict between the Mushroom Kingdom, ruled by Princess Peach, and the Dark Lands, under the control of Bowser, the King of the Koopas. The Super Mario Bros Movie is the biggest domestic Hit of 2023 at Box Office.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie had it’s premiere at Regal LA Live on April 1, 2023, and was subsequently released in the United States on April 5 by Universal Pictures. The film garnered mixed reviews from critics but achieved remarkable financial success, grossing $1.360 billion globally.

It shattered several Box-Office records, including being the highest-grossing film adapted from a video game and the first of it’s kind to surpass the billion-dollar milestone. By the end of it’s theatrical run, it ranked as the second-highest-grossing film of 2023, the third-highest-grossing animated feature, the 15th-highest-grossing film in history, and the top-grossing film produced by Illumination.
