The Latest Hunger Games Trailer Unveils Three Returning Victors Along With Katniss’ Parents

May fortune always smile upon you, as the trailer for The Hunger Games – Sunrise on the Reaping unveils everything. The Hunger Games franchise stands as a remarkably successful dystopian series of books and films, inspired by the novels of Suzanne Collins.

This series has been transformed into five movies, with the upcoming release of Sunrise on the Reaping, a prequel that will depict the 50th annual Hunger Games. Taking place in the fictional realm of Panem, each year features a televised fight to the death, serving as a grim punishment for previous acts of rebellion.

A retrospective trailer showcases characters from the original films as they shift to their younger counterparts in the prequel, The Hunger Games – Sunrise on the Reaping. This fresh glimpse at characters, including Joseph Zada portraying Haymitch Abernathy and Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, was revealed, along with some characters that have never been seen before.

The most astonishing reveal was the first look at Katniss’ parents, Burdock Everdeen and her mother from the original movies, Asterid. Katniss’ father, Burdock, was never seen prior to this, having tragically lost his life in a mine explosion five years before the 74th Hunger Games.

Scot Greenan, recognized for his role in T2 Trainspotting, has been selected to portray Burdock, while Grace Ackary, known for The Winter King, will take on the role of Asterid. Additional characters featured include Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow.

Francis Lawrence, the director behind all the earlier adaptations, is at the helm of the prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, alongside the original writer, Billy Ray. The cast includes Glenn Close, Mckenna Grace, Billy Porter, Ben Wang, Whitney Peak, and Iris Apatow, although they did not appear in the most recent trailer.

The franchise has amassed over $3.3 billion globally to date, establishing a benchmark for young adult book adaptations thanks to it’s remarkable success and favorable reviews.

The Hunger Games, released in 2012 and starring Jennifer Lawrence, garnered outstanding feedback and achieved an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 84%. It’s sequel, Catching Fire, boasts the highest rating at 90% and is currently the top-grossing film in the franchise.

To the excitement of fans, Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to return as Katniss and Peeta in the upcoming film, which is expected to feature a flash-forward epilogue taking place 24 years after the 50th Hunger Games. The Hunger Games – Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20.
