The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster is a 2023 American science-fiction horror film that blends elements of black horror, crafted by Bomani J. Story in his debut as a director. This film draws inspiration from Mary Shelley’s 1818 classic, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, and centers around a gifted teenage girl named Vicaria (played by Hayes) who brings her deceased brother back to life, only to face the terrifying consequences of his transformation into a vengeful creature. The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster is a flop at Box Office.
The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster made it’s debut at the South by Southwest film festival on March 11, 2023. It was subsequently released in select theaters across the US on June 9, 2023, and became available for streaming on June 23, 2023.
At the 55th NAACP Image Awards, the film received a nomination for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture, while Hayes earned a nomination for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture.
