Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is a 2023 animated superhero film from the United States, inspired by Marvel Comics and centered around the character Miles Morales / Spider-Man. Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay crafted by the talented writing duo of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller alongside David Callaham, this film serves as a sequel to Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse (2018) and marks the second installment in the Spider-Verse franchise. Similar to it’s predecessor, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse garnered widespread critical acclaim and shattered several Box Office records, amassing over $690 million globally at the Box Office.
In this exciting adventure, Miles teams up with Gwen Stacy / Spider-Gwen (Steinfeld) as they traverse the multiverse, encountering a group of Spider-People led by Miguel O’Hara / Spider-Man 2099 (Isaac), known as the Spider-Society.
However, tensions arise as they confront a new adversary, the Spot (Schwartzman). The film was produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment. Sony initiated the development of a sequel to Into the Spider-Verse even before it’s release in 2018, retaining the original writing and directing team.
The sequel was designed to delve into the dynamics between Miles, voiced by Moore, and Gwen, voiced by Steinfeld. The official announcement for the sequel came in November 2019, with animation commencing in June 2020, showcasing a unique visual style for each of the six universes explored by the characters.
With a budget ranging from $100 to $150 million, the film boasts a theatrical runtime of 140 minutes, making it the longest American animated film by runtime at the time of it’s debut. Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse had it’s premiere at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on May 30, 2023, and was released in the United States on June 2, following a delay from it’s initial April 2022 release date.
