Colleen Hoover’s Latest Film Was On The Verge of Receiving It’s First R-Rating Until A Crucial Scene Was Removed

Reminders of Him, authored and released by Hoover in 2022, features Maika Monroe portraying Kenna Rowan, a former convict striving to rebuild her life while confronting her past. Enter Tyriq Withers as Ledger Ward, a character who appears to be deeply connected to Kenna and her heartbreaking history. Despite their reservations, they find themselves falling in love and sharing an intimate moment in Kenna’s apartment.

In a conversation with media, director Vanessa Caswill revealed that the adaptation of Reminders of Him had the potential to be rated R, but they opted to eliminate a scene from the original material — specifically, “the intimate scene.”

When questioned about the decision to cut this significant moment in the evolving romance between Kenna and Ledger, Caswill explained that – “In the book, the initial physical encounter is depicted in great detail. It spans several pages, to be honest. I filmed it. We filmed it. Unfortunately, it’s not included. The studio was very enthusiastic about this scene, expressing, This is an excellent scene!”

It appears that Caswill did plan to include the intimate scene in the film, but doing so would have jeopardized the current PG-13 rating, limiting access for many Hoover fans eager to see Reminders of Him brought to life. Nevertheless, romance is very much alive in the movie, featuring numerous intimate exchanges between the couple.

Hoover mentioned that her role was to ensure reader satisfaction “while also being the one to dash some of those expectations by not being able to include every detail.” Reminders of Him is just one of the many book adaptations from Hoover, with some being more scandalous than others.

The adaptation of her popular novel It Ends With Us has recently made headlines, but not in the manner the author intended. Leading actors Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have been in the spotlight lately due to a legal dispute that arose after allegations of misconduct on set emerged globally.
