Rachel Bilson returns to her iconic role as Summer Roberts in a fresh advertising campaign for 21 Seeds infused tequila. This project not only sees her reprising the character that launched her career on the beloved teen drama The O.C. but also reunites her with the show’s creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who produced the video spots through their company, Fake Empire.
The three campaign videos reference iconic moments from The O.C., featuring the show’s memorable catchphrase, “Welcome to the O.C., bitch,” as well as the notorious scene where Marissa (Mischa Barton) dramatically tossed a lawn chair into the pool.
Rachel Bilson shortly after she completed the campaign shoot in Los Angeles she revealed several new things.
1) The O.C. debuted 21 years ago. Do you recall someone telling you, “Brace yourself, your life is about to transform dramatically ?”
Rachel Bilson : I distinctly recall a moment that made me realize, “Things have changed.” We attended a special event in Manhattan Beach, and when we arrived, we were greeted by a huge crowd. It struck us that so many people were there, and we thought, “Wow, people actually watch the show and recognize us. What’s going on ?” In that instant, I felt a wave of realization wash over me, “This is really popular.”
2) What inspired the creation of 21 Seeds ? Do Josh or Stephanie reach out to you with a message to play Summer once more ?
Rachel Bilson : Josh filled me in on the details, and I have to start by saying that whenever Josh and Stephanie propose something, my response is always an enthusiastic, “Absolutely!” When they say, “Jump,” I’m already asking, “How high?” So when they approached me with this idea, it was a no-brainer for me, especially since I’m a huge fan of 21 Seeds. The moment they mentioned bringing Summer back and that they were writing it, I was all in. I mean, how could that not be fun ? Tequila and Summer ? It’s a perfect match ! After all, no Orange County housewife can get by without her tequila.
3) She’s a Real Housewife of Orange County ?
Rachel Bilson : For the fans, I want to clarify that she is still very much married to Seth, and they have children together. Let’s acknowledge that reality. She is truly thriving in her life. Over the four years of the show, Summer has blossomed, and that growth has only continued.
4) Could Summer Be Joining The Cast of The Real Housewives of Orange County ?
Rachel Bilson : It seems to me that she ought to be.
5) Does Revisiting Summer Motivate You To Consider A Reboot or Perhaps A Reunion ?
Rachel Bilson : I would definitely be interested in it. However, it’s important to recognize that this is something people continue to enjoy and discover. Should we let that cherished moment remain untouched ? It’s a balancing act; on one hand, it would be a blast to reunite, and I have a deep affection for everyone involved. Reviving Marissa and recreating the experience would be fantastic if we decide to move forward. On the other hand, preserving the original magic and significance of what it was also holds great value.
6) How Did It Feel To Reunite On Set With Josh & Stephanie ?
Rachel Bilson : It’s truly the best feeling. During the filming of The O.C. pilot, we would always hear applause following an excellent take. Now, having Josh and Steph back there cheering me on again is just fantastic. I thought to myself, “I should bring you both to every set so I can enjoy applause after each take.” That would be amazing !
7) What Drink Does Summer Love The Most When It Comes To 21 Seeds ?
Rachel Bilson : Without a doubt, the cucumber jalapeno is her favorite. She enjoys a spicy margarita, so that option is definitely her go-to.
