1) What You Learned From Working With Sam Waterston ?
Odelya Halevi : What haven’t I learned from him ? The most important lesson has been about letting go. He is truly an incredible man. I’ve mentioned this countless times, but it bears repeating because it’s so significant.
I remember watching him as a little girl in my parents’ living room, long before I could speak English or read subtitles. With only two channels available—Cartoons or Sam Waterston on Law & Order—I was always drawn to him, saying, “Him ! I love him!”
I didn’t understand why at the time, but years later, I feel like the luckiest girl alive for having the opportunity to work alongside him. It became clear to me why I admired him so much; he has this remarkable presence.
When he enters a room, you can feel the energy shift. It’s calming, and he brings laughter with him. He became a parental figure for me on set, especially since my own parents are far away in Israel. He taught me to find joy between takes and not to take things too seriously.
I often avoided looking into his eyes during scenes because it felt like I was watching a show rather than participating in it.
The last day on set was emotional; he gave a heartfelt speech that left us all in tears for days. Then there’s Tony Goldwyn, an extraordinary actor. Initially, I was apprehensive, thinking, ‘How can anyone fill those big shoes?’ But he stepped in seamlessly, bringing a fresh and intriguing dynamic to our characters.
We’re on edge, unsure of what will happen next, and it’s been fantastic. He’s incredibly talented, and I feel so honored to be working with him.
2) Are There Any Other Original Cast Members From Law & Order That You’d Like To Work With In The Future ?
Odelya Halevi : Working with Mariska again would be an incredible opportunity. She truly is a force of nature. During our time together on the show, I was struck by her commanding presence. She embodies what it means to be a leader.
You might assume that after years of dedication to Law & Order, someone in her position would be distant or preoccupied with their own work. However, Mariska is anything but that. She remains engaged, always available to support and guide her fellow cast members. Her kindness and enthusiasm create an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and enjoys their time on set.
It was like being back in acting class, with her as my mentor. I gained so much insight from her, and her grounded nature is truly inspiring. While Dick Wolf has crafted a remarkable vision for the series, it’s the commitment and passion of people like Mariska that truly elevate the show.
I can’t express how excited I would be to collaborate with her again. If I were told that my next episode would feature Mariska, I would be over the moon.
3) Is There One That You Consider To Be Your Favorite To Bring To Life ?
Odelya Halevi : I truly enjoy the episodes that push my character beyond her comfort zone. For instance, last season featured a powerful moment where she had to discuss her sister, and there was another intense episode where she faced the challenge of cross-examination.
Delivering a closing argument was another significant milestone that I found incredibly thrilling. This upcoming season promises even more surprises, and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
4) Are There Any Fan Moments That You Remember ?
Odelya Halevi : During the first season of filming, which we still continue today, I had a moment of realization that I was truly part of Law & Order. It happened while we were shooting on the courthouse steps, surrounded by hundreds of onlookers.
As Hugh Dancy, who portrays Price, and I performed our scene, it struck me. This is a historic moment. I was standing in a place that has been iconic since the ’90s, and now I was playing a lawyer in this legendary show. It took a moment to fully appreciate the significance of it all.
What truly warms my heart is when I return to the trailer and find fans waiting outside, eager to express their love for the show and take photos. Those interactions genuinely brighten my day. Meeting fans and sharing those moments is something I cherish deeply.
5) How Has Being Part of The Show Changed Your Perspective Or View On The Justice System ?
Odelya Halevi : Before the show, my understanding of law was quite straightforward. I believed it was simply a matter of right and wrong. If someone committed murder, they deserved life in prison, no questions asked.
However, after engaging with the scripts and the narratives presented in the show, I realized that the reality is far more complex. While the stories are fictional, they draw inspiration from real-life events. This experience has taught me the importance of empathy towards those who commit crimes.
Many individuals may only make a single mistake in their lives, and it’s crucial to consider giving them an opportunity to atone for their actions and reintegrate into society as better individuals.
6) Which Cases Do You Personally Feel Most Intrigued By Just In Terms of How It’s Handled ?
Odelya Halevi : The cases that resonate with me the most are those involving women who have endured abuse, be it physical assault or domestic violence. This issue strikes a personal chord with me, evoking a profound sense of empathy and compassion for these women. These are the stories that truly move me.
7) What Do You Want Law & Order Overall To Represent To Audiences ?
Odelya Halevi : I take immense pride in being part of a show where each character embodies a unique perspective that resonates with real-world opinions. This is precisely what makes the show so timely and significant, sparking vital discussions and debates. I am eager to continue portraying a viewpoint that reflects the diverse voices in America, remaining an integral part of this remarkable series.
