NCIS Tony & Ziva Episode 2 Review – No Friend of Mine

Tony and Ziva face an assault from self-driving cars in NCIS Tony & Ziva Episode 2 – No Friend of Mine. Boris (Maximilian Osinski) is the skilled hacker behind 9.4, a tool that enables users to breach most digital systems, which is why he refuses to accept any responsibility for his clients’ actions.

While Tony and Ziva question Boris, his fiancée Fruzsi (Anne-Marie Waldeck) frequently enters and exits the room, always standing by her future hacker husband. Their interrogation is cut short by the arrival of Interpol, revealing that the enigmatic woman is actually an agent named Martine.

Despite Boris’ hesitance, the four of them manage to escape through the back and discover a house where they can squat illegally. It is there that Boris discloses he met another hacker involved with 9.4 in an online chatroom and has tracked him down to Italy.

Before Tony and Ziva embark on their journey to Italy, we flash back five years, where Ziva expresses her unpreparedness to date anyone due to her mental health struggles. We also witness Henry’s persistent attempts to recruit the two former agents for Interpol, but they steadfastly decline each time, prioritizing their roles as parents to Tali above all else.

In the present day, Tony and Ziva find themselves tailing the second hacker, but during their pursuit, they are unexpectedly pursued by self-driving murder cars. In a hilariously absurd action scene, they navigate the cobblestone streets, drifting and swerving to escape the relentless onslaught of driverless vehicles behind them.

When one of the cars takes out the hacker, Tony and Ziva seize the opportunity to flee by shooting out their tires. According to Boris, 9.4 was utilized to remotely access vehicles and convert them into weapons — a truly frightening prospect.

He also mentions that the Secretary General of Interpol, Jonah (Julian Ovenden), has vanished, leaving Henry in command of the agency. Tony asserts that they can contact Henry for assistance, but Ziva is skeptical, prompting them to illegally tap into the cameras at the site of Jonah’s disappearance.

Claudette (Amita Suman) also arrives at the house after armed intruders, presumably from Interpol, invaded her apartment while she was conversing with Tali’s babysitter, Sophie (Lara Rossi), who is also her girlfriend.

Following a passive-aggressive remark about his questionable moral compass, she gets into a disagreement with Boris, leading Fruzsi to defend her fiancé, who grew up coding in a closet with limited resources. This heartfelt moment adds depth to the supporting characters, but the narrative quickly shifts back to Tony and Ziva.

After the couple experiences the “forced to share one bed” trope, Ziva decides to give Tony a single opportunity to demonstrate that Henry can be trusted. Tony arranges a meeting with Henry, insisting on a private discussion, but the crew notices other agents nearby just in time. As Tony walks through the dreary rain, his hopes are dashed, realizing there is no straightforward escape from this situation.

Upon returning home, Claudette and Boris reveal their latest discovery – Martine was not acting independently, and the 9.4 malware was utilized against a private defense contractor named Reigning Fire. NCIS Tony & Ziva Episode 2 concludes on a heart-wrenching note, with Tony sitting alone in a room, sobbing in frustration.
