The Latest Horror Project From The Director of The Conjuring Promises To Be His Most Chilling Release

Since it’s debut in 2013, this horror franchise featuring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson has enjoyed steady Box Office success through it’s four primary films, captivating and frightening an audience that has largely matured alongside the series and it’s characters.

Currently, Michael Chaves, the director of 2021’s The Conjuring – The Devil Made Me Do It and 2025’s The Conjuring – Last Rites, is said to be exploring a new medium with his latest endeavor.

In collaboration with Skybound and Image Comics, Chaves is joining forces with artists Matthew Roberts and Rico Renzi to create a new dark fantasy comic series called Corpse Knight.

Michael Chaves Is Now Channeling His Latest Creative Vision Into The World of Comics

After the success of 2025’s The Conjuring – Last Rites, which has emerged as the highest-grossing installment in the franchise globally since it’s release, director Michael Chaves is back with Corpse Knight, a dark fantasy horror comic set against the backdrop of a war-torn France.

This exciting new series is scheduled to launch on April 22, 2026. Chaves expressed surprise at returning to the horror genre so quickly, commending the artistic talents of his collaborator Matthew Roberts and the color work by Rico Renzi.

Roberts is renowned for his contributions to the Universal Monsters comic series and for co-creating and illustrating Manifest Destiny, while Renzi is celebrated for his work on the 2018 film Spider-Man – Into the Spider-Verse.

Comics represent a fresh medium for Chaves, one that he has shown a genuine passion for. In contrast, visual storytelling is far from unfamiliar to the director, who played a pivotal role in concluding the main The Conjuring series last year with the franchise’s most successful installment to date.

The Forthcoming Series Is Deeply Rooted In Dark Fantasy Horror

Corpse Knight tells the story of a young girl named Foy, whose father comes back to life to safeguard her in the face of tragedy. As they set out on a journey to face miraculous events and terrifying creatures, Foy begins to question if her father has truly been a monster all along.

The series will present a unique type of horror that fans of The Conjuring might not expect from Chaves, as Corpse Knight instead draws significantly from it’s classic dark fantasy origins.

After achieving remarkable success directing the last two films in the primary The Conjuring series, Michael Chaves is set to return with an exciting new horror series that fans will definitely want to catch.
