Boston Blue Casts Maggie Lawson As A Member Of The Police Force

The highly anticipated Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, has just announced its newest cast member. After an impressive run of over ten years, Blue Bloods concluded its journey on CBS after 14 successful seasons. In February, it was revealed that a spinoff of the beloved police procedural was officially in the works at the network, with Donnie Wahlberg returning to portray Danny Reagan, although he will be accompanied by a predominantly fresh cast.

The latest addition to the upcoming spinoff has been confirmed, with Psych’s Maggie Lawson joining the main cast of Boston Blue alongside Wahlberg and previously announced actors Sonequa Martin-Green and Ernie Hudson.

Lawson, who is well-known for her portrayal of Juliet O’Hara in the beloved crime comedy Psych, will take on the role of the Superintendent of the Boston Police Department.

The Impact of The Latest Cast Addition On Boston Blue

Returning to his role as NYPD Officer Danny Reagan, Wahlberg’s character accepts a position with the Boston Police Department. He is teamed up with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a well-known law enforcement family, and he will report to Sarah Silver (Lawson), the Superintendent of the Boston Police Department, who is characterized as self-assured.

Additionally, she is Lena’s stepsister, balancing the delicate relationship between her family ties and her professional responsibilities. The family connections are further enriched by Ernie Hudson’s portrayal of Reverend Peters.

As the head of the blended Silver family, Peters is the father of Mae Silver, who serves as Boston’s District Attorney, and the grandfather to Detective Lena Silver, Sarah Silver (Lawson), and rookie patrol officer Isaac Silver.

While some of these roles remain unannounced, this development paves the way for the spinoff to center around a distinct family dynamic compared to the original series.

Our Perspective On The Development of Boston Blue

The upcoming spinoff, produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Jerry Bruckheimer TV, features Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis as the showrunners and executive producers. This new series will mark a shift from the traditional police procedural format.

Nevertheless, with Jerry Bruckheimer, Kristie Anne Reed, and Wahlberg himself serving as executive producers, along with the experienced Anthony Hemingway directing, viewers can expect significant development.

While the storyline maintains continuity, the Boston Blue family faces unique challenges and struggles that will distinguish this new drama from the previous Reagan family narrative.
