Why Emma Roberts Blames Her Mom For The O.C. Missed Opportunity ?

Emma Roberts confessed that she enjoyed the popular teen drama series THE O.C., even though her mother deemed it “inappropriate” and prohibited her from watching it. Emma Roberts is still grappling with her mother’s decision to prevent her from joining the cast of The O.C.

During an interview with NYLON, Grace Van Patten, the 33-year-old star of Tell Me Lies, revealed that she once had the chance to audition for the role of Kaitlin, Marissa Cooper’s younger sister, originally played by Mischa Barton, on the popular series THE O.C. that aired for four seasons from 2003 to 2007.

Emma Roberts revealed, “I would binge-watch The O.C. before a new season premiered because I felt the need to grasp every detail. I absolutely adore The O.C. However, I wasn’t permitted to watch it when it originally aired; my mom deemed it inappropriate for me.”

She recalled, “There was a time when they wanted me to audition for the role of Marissa Cooper’s younger sister, but my mom refused to let me. I’m still upset about it.”

Fans might remember that Kaitlin was portrayed by two different actresses throughout the series. In the first season, Shailene Woodley played the role of Marissa’s sister. Later, Willa Holland stepped in to take on an older version of Kaitlin during the third and fourth seasons.

Shailene Woodley, now 32, shared that she was deemed too youthful for the role, which led to her being replaced. “At the age of 13, I was replaced, simply because I hadn’t hit puberty yet. I was a late bloomer, and that was perfectly okay,” she shared with media in 2020.

Emma Roberts, an executive producer for Tell Me Lies, is teaming up with her American Horror Story : Delicate co-star Kim Kardashian on an intriguing new venture called Calabasas. She teased that the series will combine aspects of The O.C. with the beloved teen drama Pretty Little Liars.

According to Emma Roberts, “I don’t have a lot to reveal, but I truly desire something akin to the next The O.C. I believe that if we approach this correctly, it could blend elements of The O.C. with a touch of Pretty Little Liars. Kim and I are simply two girls from Calabasas reconnecting with our origins”.

The O.C. aired for four seasons, chronicling the journey of Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), a troubled teenager from Chino who relocates to Newport Beach to stay with the family of his public defender. As the series unfolded on Fox, friendships and romantic relationships flourished among the young cast, who found themselves in the limelight.
