When NCIS : Los Angeles was cancelled in 2023 after 14 Successful Seasons, it was clear that the cast felt let down by this decision. Featuring Eric Christian Olsen, Daniela Ruah, Chris O’Donnell, and LL Cool J, among others, this was the inaugural and most enduring NCIS spin-off, which debuted in 2009 and concluded in May 2023.
While many have transitioned to different projects, efforts to bring back the cherished spin-off have been made, yet sadly, they have not succeeded. In a recent conversation with TVLine, Chris O’Donnell, while promoting his new spin-off, 9-1-1 – Nashville, disclosed that the cast had come together to propose an NCIS Los Angeles movie aimed at resolving some unresolved storylines from Season 14, but unfortunately, it did not materialize.
According to Chris O’Donnell, “We proposed it, but I honestly believe that formula isn’t very effective for CBS. As we gathered during the SAG-AFTRA strike, we thought we could produce one of these in roughly six weeks, and it would genuinely turn out fantastic. Yet, it never came to fruition. Leaving was challenging because everyone truly enjoyed collaborating with one another.”
Looking back on his 14 years as Special Agent G. Callen, he expressed his enthusiasm for taking on a new role. As per Chris O’Donnell, “I’m thrilled to portray a different character. I cherished my time as Callen for 14 years on NCIS Los Angeles. It felt like a wonderful family, and I eagerly anticipate joining a new family in Nashville and being part of ABC for some time.”
