The latest episode of NCIS leaves us pondering the potential of Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) and Jessica Knight’s (Katrina Law) relationship, as it teeters on the edge of what could have been.
After their breakup, the two had not spoken since her return to D.C. at the start of the season—until fate intervened and they found themselves trapped in a camper on their way back to headquarters, only to discover they were barred from entry due to a clash with the FBI.
To sum it up – The team averted a potential WW-III by defying orders. It is in this cramped space that we find out he’s using a dating app. Despite their lingering love for each other, which they openly express, it simply isn’t enough.
He insists she deserves someone who can pursue global job opportunities alongside her and leave at a moment’s notice, which he feels he cannot be, at least not right now. She counters that he deserves the stability he craves, something she wishes she could provide for him.
Brian Dietzen delve into that discussion and hint at what the future holds for the former couple.
1) Palmer and Knight have finally confronted their feelings. After a long period of avoidance, we admire the maturity of their decision, even though it’s a painful one, as their love for each other remains strong. How did you feel about this moment ?
Brian Dietzen : What truly sets this relationship apart for me, and for many viewers, is the organic nature of our scenes. We don’t meticulously plan every moment with, “I’ll do this, and then you do that.” Instead, everything unfolds naturally and effortlessly. Some of the most memorable scenes I’ve had in my 22-year career have been with Jimmy and Jess, as I genuinely appreciate the seamless connection we share. Katrina is an incredible actress, and I cherish every moment spent working alongside her. As they navigate their decision, I believe nothing is definitively concluded or set in stone. Steve, is an exceptional writer with a keen understanding of storytelling. It’s important to keep possibilities open regarding their future interactions. Let’s allow the narrative to unfold naturally, exploring the potential for their relationship to develop through the many scenes they will share at work.
2) The scene where Jimmy Palmer checks her pulse, along with the playful exchange about her snoring, beautifully illustrates their connection.
Brian Dietzen : It seems to echo the old adage. If you truly care for something, set it free. If it’s destined to return, it will find its way back to you. I believe they are really putting this philosophy to the ultimate test.
3) What Do You Think Prompted Jimmy Palmer To Join Dating App & When Do You Believe He Made That Choice ?
Brian Dietzen : Jimmy’s journey on this app seems to stem from a profound love that has since turned into heartbreak. After losing his wife, he finds himself grappling with the idea that life still holds possibilities for him. He’s determined to rediscover that love, believing that perhaps he can find it once more. His efforts are commendable; he openly expresses, “I still love you,” even while navigating the complexities of online dating. The reality is that the person he truly loves is just a few steps away, working at the same desk. This pursuit of companionship is not just for the sake of his child. It’s a genuine desire to reconnect with someone special. Both he and Jess have experienced loss, and it’s clear they want to ensure they are emotionally ready before embarking on a new relationship. However, there will inevitably be moments of connection between them. Throughout the episodes, we witness Jimmy’s fleeting glances at Jess, moments where he seems momentarily lost in thought. Regardless of the outcome, it’s evident that a deep bond will always exist between them.
4) Does It Mean That We’re Going To Be Hearing About Jimmy Dating ?
Brian Dietzen : We’re going to take it to the next level. Jimmy is really focused right now. It’s interesting—ever since that incident with the dating app, he hasn’t mentioned dating at all. It seems like that conversation made him reflect on his situation, prompting him to think, “What am I doing with this ? Oh right, I’m trying to move on from my past.” As a result, we haven’t revisited that topic in any of our recent filming. Instead, we see him making an effort to reconnect with his teammates, expressing a desire to spend time with Kasie and reconnect with Torres, who he considers a close friend. He’s immersing himself in work. During some of the crime scenes that Katrina and I filmed, I noticed that my portrayal reflects this mindset—seeing her, I think, “Jello, I’m diving into work, focusing on the case, and I want to be enveloped by the very thing that helped me cope after losing my wife : my team, my family.”
5) It Seems Like The Entire Team Is On That App ?
Brian Dietzen : Absolutely. What other ways are there to connect with people ? If that were the case, we’d all be in relationships with one another, and clearly, that hasn’t been successful.
6) What New Challenges & Adventures Await Your Character ?
Brian Dietzen : In an upcoming episode, there will be references to Knight’s sister. Her sister is going to have an impact on our team. She seems to generate a ripple of excitement wherever she appears, doesn’t she ?
7) The Christmas Episode Serves As The Midseason Finale, Correct ? Will There Be A Cliffhanger ?
Brian Dietzen : Absolutely, this will mark the final episode of 2024. Much like our beloved Christmas specials, it carries a festive theme and is neatly concluded. This episode embodies the NCIS Christmas tradition, offering a complete story with a clear beginning, middle, and end, allowing you to enjoy it before diving into your holiday celebrations.
8) Any Romance Hanging Around ?
Brian Dietzen : Absolutely not in this instance. I really don’t believe so. However, you will catch a glimpse of a well-known costume of Jimmy’s making, if I’m not mistaken, its third or fourth appearance in the series.
9) Are We Going To See Victoria Soon ?
Brian Dietzen : Absolutely, I think so! I just had a conversation with Elle Draper, who portrays Victoria, and it seems we can expect to see her on screen quite soon. Although we haven’t started filming yet, the anticipation is building!
10) Victoria & Knight Relationship ?
Brian Dietzen : In the premiere, she’s reaching out to both of them, reflecting on the duration of their breakup. The sequence where Knight first encounters her is fantastic; her awkwardness around this kid is palpable, and Katrina truly shines in that moment. It’s incredibly well done. Now, they’ve become the best of friends, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship unfolds.
11) McGee Is Currently Investigating LaRoche. Will The Rest of The Team Be Joining In On This Soon ?
Brian Dietzen : He truly excels in his role. During a scene where we all gathered around an autopsy table, his performance was nothing short of remarkable. He is an exceptional actor. This complexity is a hallmark of our show, reminiscent of characters like Trent Kort. You find yourself questioning whether he’s an adversary, a friend, or someone with his own agenda. It adds a fascinating layer to the character. Our entire team is set to delve into the inquiries that Timothy McGee raised in the premiere, and we’re in for an exciting journey ahead.
