Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 2 demonstrated that Danny will always remain true to himself, regardless of his location. He showcased a more relaxed demeanor while spending time with Sean at Fenway Park, a side we rarely see on Blue Bloods. However, when it was time to get serious, he reverted to being the same passionate and fiery cop we know him to be. Danny and Lena formed an effective partnership, tackling an urgent case together before Danny ultimately chose to make Boston his permanent home, though this decision will only alter him to a certain extent.
Boston Blue Episode 2 – Plot & Story
Danny arrived in Boston primarily due to Sean’s health issues and found himself handling two distinct urgent cases. Boston Blue could not continue this way. It would have turned into a farce if Danny had postponed his return to New York repeatedly because of one crisis after another.
We felt a tinge of sadness when Danny revealed he had talked to his family off-screen. While we understand that this was necessary due to budget constraints, I would have cherished the opportunity to see Danny on a video call during a Reagan family dinner.
It would have truly felt like home. Sean also brought up his drives back to New York for Sunday dinners, which, unfortunately, will not be featured on screen. This is the unfortunate reality of Blue Bloods no longer airing.
The two shows can only be linked in the most superficial ways, and references to the New York Reagans will always serve as a reminder of what we lost when CBS decided to cancel Blue Bloods.
Danny & Lena Found Themselves In A Dangerous Situation
Initially, it appeared that Mae’s witness had been murdered to undermine the case, but that theory fell apart when the defendant was also found dead. There was certainly an abundance of shooting in this situation, though.
Sean Reagan & Jonah Silver
The episode centered around Sean and Jonah’s inaugural day as rookie partners on patrol, showcasing their “hilarious and endearing” blunders shaped by the well-meaning yet conflicting guidance from their families.
A central theme revolved around their journey to become equal partners instead of resembling competing figures like “Batman and Robin” or “Watson and Sherlock”. They ultimately embraced the dynamic of “Starsky and Hutch”.
Their swift adaptation to teamwork marked a significant and positive evolution for both their characters and their partnership. The unlikelihood of two inexperienced partners being placed in the same unit without undergoing months of training from a training officer is striking.
Family Dynamic
The episode utilized various partnerships to delve into themes of family, loyalty, and the equilibrium between personal relationships and professional responsibilities.
Sarah (Maggie Lawson), in her role as a leader, faced challenges in supporting a fellow officer and friend who erred because of a family crisis, highlighting the complexities of reconciling regulations with personal connections.
The family dynamics are captivating and serve as a fitting extension of the Blue Bloods style. However, some viewers felt that the “cozy family dinners” and the absence of significant conflict rendered certain resolutions, such as securing the officer a position at the D.A.’s office, as “too neat and tidy.”
Positives
1) The episode effectively combined police procedural aspects with family drama, reminiscent of Blue Bloods.
2) The dynamic among the cast, especially the interaction between Wahlberg and Martin-Green, stood out as a highlight.
3) Additionally, guest star Carolyn McCormick’s portrayal of Winnie Malakov received notable praise for her compelling performance.
Negatives
1) This week’s case was described as “a little convoluted,” with the identity of the perpetrator being quite predictable from the start.
2) A significant concern was the possible adverse effect on Danny’s relationship with Maria Baez stemming from his permanent relocation to Boston.
3) There are flaws in the portrayal of police procedures and ordinary family dinner scene.
Conclusion
Boston Blue Episode 2 (Teammates) effectively set up new partnerships and family ties, and although certain plot elements felt predictable, the impressive chemistry among the cast kept viewers eager for what lies ahead with the new teams.
