An original cast member from Blue Bloods is set to reprise their role as a guest star in the upcoming season of Boston Blue. Following the conclusion of Blue Bloods, CBS approved a spinoff series featuring Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, as he relocates from New York City to Boston to join the local police force.
However, Wahlberg isn’t the only familiar face from Blue Bloods to make an appearance on Boston Blue. Bridget Moynahan, Len Cariou, and Will Hochman have all guest-starred, while Marisa Ramirez has taken on a recurring role.
In the upcoming season 2 of Boston Blue, another familiar face from Blue Bloods will make an appearance. Will Estes, known for his role as Jamie Reagan, Danny’s brother, is confirmed to guest star in one episode.
This exciting update was confirmed by TV Insider after Wahlberg posted a photo featuring himself, Estes, Sonequa Martin-Green, Mika Amonsen, and Marcus Scribner, with crew members busy in the background. In his Instagram Story, Wahlberg expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Welcome (back) to the family! Jamie Reagan! Aka Will Estes!”
Fans also snapped pictures of Estes on set this week, and Wahlberg himself posted photos and videos as the crew and cast made their way back to Boston to continue filming. While the reasons for Jamie’s visit to Danny in Boston remain under wraps, this development comes after production for Boston Blue Season 2 kicked off last month in Toronto.
In addition to the main characters, Boston Blue boasts a talented ensemble that includes Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Kenric Green, Marc MacRae, Mike Vogel, Matia Jackett, and Ryan Broussard. Estes played the role of Sergeant Jamie Eagan in all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, portraying one of Frank and Mary Reagan’s children.
In the last season, Jamie tackled cases related to human trafficking and d*** operations, ultimately achieving a promotion. He also had conflicts with Joe Hill, prompting Frank to intervene and encourage them to find common ground.
In their personal lives, Jamie and Eddie Janko announced that their family of two would soon expand to three. Eddie’s off-screen birth was disclosed during the inaugural season of Boston Blue. Since the conclusion of Blue Bloods in 2024, Estes has not been featured in any television shows or films.
Throughout his career, he has also been credited for his roles in The Dark Knight Rises, It Had to be You, The Secret World of Alex Mack, 7th Heaven, and American Dreams. He has also made guest appearances on Baywatch, Boy Meets World, Full House, Diagnosis – Murder, The Fugitive, Law & Order – Special Victims Unit, and In Plain Sight.
Now, this actor is making a comeback to television to reprise his role as Jamie, the character he portrayed alongside Wahlberg’s Danny for an impressive 14 seasons, in a much-anticipated reunion that fans of the beloved franchise have been eagerly awaiting.
The second season of Boston Blue is set to premiere on Friday, October 9, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
