Boston Blue centers around Danny Reagan (Wahlberg), a former NYPD detective who transfers to the Boston Police Department to be nearer to his son, Sean (Mika Amonsen). He partners with a detective from a prominent Boston law enforcement family, much like his own in New York, as they tackle high-profile criminal cases.
Filming for Season 2 of Boston Blue has officially begun. A recent Instagram story shared by Wahlberg, who is back to play Danny in the popular spinoff’s second season, provided a glimpse behind the scenes at Boston Blue’s interpretation of one of Blue Bloods’ most beloved and occasionally uncomfortable traditions – the obligatory weekly family dinner.
In the flagship series, the Reagan family gathers every Sunday for dinner, setting aside their differences. A clip shared on social media shows Wahlberg approaching a table where Detective Lena Silver’s family, portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green, is seated.
The sneak peek features the Silver family’s version of this weekly tradition, with the notable distinction that their required meal takes place every Friday as a Shabbat dinner instead. In the video, the actor stated that it was the “first Shabbat dinner of the year.”
He then cheerfully noted his gratitude for Boston Blue’s renewal for a second season and conveyed his excitement for fans to watch the forthcoming chapter of the police procedural drama when it debuts on CBS later this year.
The Reagan family dinners in Blue Bloods have evolved into a cherished tradition among fans of the show. Throughout it’s fourteen seasons, these dinners have been showcased in almost every episode. Out of a total of 293 episodes, only two did not include this weekly gathering. Yet, even in those particular episodes, the dinner was still mentioned.
In the second episode of Season 1, named Dedication, Frank is shot, yet the Reagan family chooses to visit him at the hospital instead of sharing a conventional meal together. The next instance in Blue Bloods where dinner is absent occurs in the eighth episode of Season 2, titled A Night on the Town.
Danny and Linda (Amy Carlson) are away for the weekend, preventing them from joining the family gathering that week. Boston Blue’s second season is set to premiere this fall on CBS. You can catch up on Season 1, which is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
