Ben McKenzie Reveals Possibility of The O.C. Reboot

Two decades on, the theme song of The O.C. continues to evoke feelings of nostalgia and a desire for a sequel. Ben McKenzie revealed that it’s not just the fans who are yearning for a revival of the cherished teen drama.

Ben McKenzie, who famously played Ryan Atwood, expressed that he still dreams of stepping back into that iconic role. While there are no concrete plans for an official return, McKenzie mentioned that he has had discussions with showrunner Josh Schwartz about the potential for a series revival.

According to Ben McKenzie, “It would be fascinating to explore those characters again. I discussed this with Josh, and I’ve played around with the idea a bit. As far as I know, nothing is currently in the works, but it certainly would be intriguing.”

The actor expressed that while he would be thrilled to portray Ryan once more, he struggles to picture a revival since the primary characters are the essence of The O.C. Although the intention would be to hand over the legacy to a new generation to keep the show pertinent, viewers who grew up with the original series have a deep connection to the main characters.

As per Ben McKenzie, “Seth Cohen, Marissa Cooper, and Ryan Atwood have become such integral parts of our lives that creating a The O.C. Part 2 feels impossible. It would require new actors to step into those roles, which presents a challenge we need to address.”

What Transpired At The Conclusion of ‘The O.C.’ ?

The series concludes with Ryan as a successful architect, who spots a boy on the street resembling him from the pilot and inquires if he needs assistance. This closing scene leaves viewers with the impression that, similar to Sandy (Peter Gallagher), the main character would mentor the boy and provide him with a chance for a brighter future.

During the panel, McKenzie expressed his willingness to assume the role of a parental figure should a reboot or spin-off occur. He feels this would help preserve the show’s multigenerational essence.

According to Ben McKenzie, “The goal is to transmit this to the younger generation, ensuring its relevance while maintaining the multigenerational aspect that The O.C. successfully achieved with outstanding actors such as Peter Gallagher, Kelly Rowan, Melinda Clarke, and Tate Donovan.”

While there is currently no information regarding the potential return of The O.C. to television, it is reassuring to hear that the lead actor is still considering the possibility of reuniting with his former co-stars on set.
