New Colleen Hoover Adaptation Release Date Featuring Anne Hathaway Has Been Postponed By 5 Months

A new adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel featuring Anne Hathaway has had it’s theatrical release date postponed. Hoover, an acclaimed American author, is widely recognized for her contributions to the romance genre, especially her 2016 bestseller It Ends With Us.

The recent film adaptation of It Ends With Us released in 2024, featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, has emerged as a significant success at the Box Office. The movie gained substantial attention due to the viral nature of behind-the-scenes controversies involving Lively and Baldoni, who also directed the film.

This conflict ultimately escalated into a widely covered legal dispute. Putting the feud behind us, It Ends With Us has achieved an incredible $351 million in global earnings, ensuring that more adaptations of Hoover’s novels are on the horizon.

Currently, there are three additional films based on her writings in development, each promising to showcase remarkable talent.

The upcoming adaptations of Hoover’s novels feature Regretting You (released few weeks earlier), a poignant tale centered on the relationship between a mother and daughter, which was published in 2019, and Reminders of Him, a narrative about a mother’s journey to redemption that came out in 2022. Additionally, a third title is in the works for a film adaptation, with Anne Hathaway set to take on a leading role.

The Release Date For Verity Has Been Pushed Back

A recent report indicates that the release of Verity in theaters will be delayed beyond initial expectations. Directed by Michael Showalter, this highly anticipated adaptation of the 2018 Hoover novel stars Anne Hathaway in the role of Verity Crawford, a reclusive author struggling to complete her latest book following a tragic incident.

The cast of Verity includes Dakota Johnson, who plays Lowen Ashleigh, the film’s protagonist and a ghostwriter brought in to finish Verity’s unfinished manuscript, only to uncover some unsettling truths. Joining them are Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Brady Wagner, and Michael Abott Jr., all contributing to this intriguing story.

Amazon MGM Studios has officially rescheduled the release date for Verity from May 15, 2026, to October 2, 2026. While the report did not specify the reason for this delay, the new date aligns it with successful femme thrillers such as Gone Girl (2014) and The Girl on the Train (2016).

A Significant New Release Is Planned For The Same Day

Considering the triumph of It Ends With Us and similar films such as Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, Verity appears ready to thrive in it’s upcoming release. However, this shift does alter the competitive landscape it will encounter in theaters.

The shift to October 2 positions Verity directly against the untitled film featuring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro G. Iňárritu from Warner Bros, which is set to debut on the same day.

However, the target audiences for these two films appear to be quite distinct, suggesting that this competition may not significantly impact either release. There is still a lot that is unclear regarding the latter project.

Up to this point, Verity has not faced the same behind-the-scenes challenges as It Ends With Us. This is certainly positive news for everyone connected to the production. However, the film clearly has a significant task ahead to achieve a comparable level of viral success.
