Collider has recently unveiled a list of the 6 most perfect horror movies released since 2000. Among the standout films of the 21st century, the publication highlights 2017’s Get Out, Sinners from 2025, and the 2014 hit The Babadook. Topping the list is the 2002 zombie classic by Danny Boyle, 28 Days Later, which Collider has dubbed the “most perfect horror movie released since 2000.”
This film not only set a new standard for the genre but also reignited a deep appreciation for zombie films among modern audiences, leading to several intense sequels that followed.
In a interview regarding 28 Days Later, which features Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy in the role of Jim, Boyle expressed his enthusiasm for the project after reading Alex Garland’s script. He noted that he was drawn to the film’s concept of a “psychological virus [that] leads to this apocalypse.”
According to Danny Boyle, “We’ve all watched films depicting biological viruses unleashed, leading to chaos and destruction. However, there was an intriguing concept presented, a somewhat speculative notion, a sci-fi idea suggesting the existence of a psychological virus.”
Furthermore, Boyle expressed his belief that the virus reflects specific social issues.
As per Danny Boyle, “However, the concept, which is tied to the pervasive rage and social intolerance present everywhere, seems to be increasingly prevalent, particularly in this country and in Britain. There is a fear that this could spiral out of control, leading to the emergence of individuals who commit acts of violence. Ultimately, these ‘monsters’ are reflections of ourselves; we cannot attribute this to external forces like aliens or some horrific biological mutation. It is, in fact, a manifestation of our own nature.”
